Trekking to Buni Buni pass, which is a day’s distance from Kheerganga is where real trekking around Kheerganga begins. You leave behind the crowded pilgrim’s trail to enter a dense oak forest. A brown carpet of leaves lines the forest floor. There is no one trekking there except you.

Almost everyone who considers travelling their passion knows about the Kheerganga trek but no one cares about the paradise right next to it, Bunbuni Pass(10,987ft). The views you get on this trek are so much better than from its neighbour, Kheerganga. You walk into the oak forest, secluded from any signs of civilization, and suddenly the forest opens to stunning view of snow-capped mountains. If you want to do just the Bunbuni Pass trek you can do it in two days. If you want to do both Kheerganga and Bunbuni Pass trek, it is doable in 3 days.

Itinerary

  • The trail from Barshaini to Bun-Buni Pass is very popular among trekkers.
  • Start by 9:00 am from Buni-Buni Pass from Barshaini.
  • Reach Kalga village which is located at the 8200 ft altitude & a short uphill trek from Barshani bus-stop.
  • Start your trek from the forest behind Kalga village, the trail is surrounded by deep forest and you find shepherds and cattle along the path with various species of herbs and shrubs.
  • The path is quite well paved as it is frequently used by locals. The trail goes through a deep forest full of pine and rhododendron species. The ascend is gentle and easy.
  • After an easy and not so tiring climb of 4-5 hours, one reaches the Bun-Buni top.
  • It is a beautiful place surrounded by spectacular mountain peaks and meadows.
  • Overnight camping with delicious food and bonfire makes it an evening to remember.

  • After a hearty breakfast at the campsite, pack up and get ready to trek down to Barshaini.
  • Kheerganga trek package ends as one reach down to Barshaini Dam.
